Wake Up America!
Wake up America! It is time for Christians to come together and participate in a “spiritual renewal”, in a Christian “non violent” jihad. A generic definition of a jihad could be a “struggle, holy war or crusade for a cause. In terms of a crusade, we can engage in a “non militant“, spiritual crusade for the minds and souls of society, unlike the middle ages, (a struggle for control of territory or for political reasons). Let us begin an “ecumenical reformation” to restore morality and responsible conduct, throughout our nation, in opposition to secular humanism, and immorality, which is spreading a disease of amorality among us, while rotting the foundation of our country and society. Christianity is in a battle for the hearts, minds and souls of Americans, and is losing the war.
All great religious leaders have taught, the foundation of social order is morality and the foundation of morality is religion. We are concerned more with our pocket book than our eternal life. The concerns of the economy and unemployment, while important and troubling, overshadow the “way of truth”. Our concern with our worldly portfolio is greater than our concern for our other worldly destination. The economy and our jobs will have little value if our society fails and with it our democratic way of life.
Recently, I heard two talk show hosts, with the same concern. Both agreed, we must go to our places of worship, asking God for forgiveness while praying for our nation. One of the commentators said, “We have no where else to go.” How true! Why is it we always go to God as the last resort? He is not our last resort, He is our only resort! Join with others in a “spiritual, praying, Christian” renewal, for God’s Divine intervention and assistance to re-establish His inspiration and guidance for America and its citizens. This spiritual reformation is not about theological differences, which church is best or which one I should attend, we must come together, unite and focus in our common faith. C. S. Lewis describes this as “Mere Christianity”, the common doctrines of Christianity that we hold together. Pray daily and fervently for God’s direction and Divine assistance in reclaiming the fundamentals that have made this nation the great nation it can be, once again.
What can you do? What should you do? The starting place is prayer. Prayer is the most powerful force in the universe and the most neglected. We can not get in “shape” (spiritual shape) if we don’t read the Manual. The New Testament is our instruction manual to moral and responsible conduct and living. Remember, God will not save our sick society without our cooperation.God’s providential care must always be seen as the accompaniment and partnership of His followers on earth. God’s action is often by the employment of human hands. He works with and through us. There is little hope of re-establishing a Christian society without the labor, sacrifice and prayer of those in whom the Spirit of Christ is active.
God’s purpose is to redeem men, to bring them into fellowship with Him, so that they will be inspired and enabled to create conditions on a far wider scale than they would even want to do apart from Him. Our “goal” (our mission!) as Christians, our reformation and our duty is to share and spread the Gospel. Our Lord told us in His “Great Commission" (Matthew 28:19)
“You, then, are to go and make disciples of all nations and baptize them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost, while teaching them to observe all things whatsoever, I have commanded you, and remember, I am with you always, even unto the end of the earth!”
What are you waiting for? Begin today, pray our Lord’s prayer, daily, pray for our country, then listen to God for direction and enlist others in spiritual renewal. You can be sure if we let God have His way with us, we will see real “hope and change”!Only as we place ourselves so to be receivers of Divine strength and love can we become part of the remedy for God’s plan, rather than remaining part of the disorder.
In the “Declaration of Independence” our forefathers wisely proclaimed:
“with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor."
Let us proclaim our dependence on our Heavenly Father. “Almighty God, who hast given us this good land for our heritage; we humbly beseech thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of thy favour and glad to do thy will. Bless our land with honorable industry, sound learning, and pure manners. Saves us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogancy, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people the multitudes brought hither out of many kindred’s and tongues. Endue with the spirit of wisdom those to whom in thy name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that, through obedience to thy law, we may show forth thy praise among the nations of the earth. In the time of prosperity, fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in thee to fail, all which we ask through Jesus Christ our lord.” Amen.
